Qualifications
I received my undergraduate degree in Business Management, from Eckerd College in St. Pete Fl. I then worked at Sprint Communications Company for 15 years in various management and account management positions. I returned to school to pursue my dream of becoming a counselor. I earned a Masters in Clinical Psychology at Appalachian State University. Upon graduation, I entered into Private Practice and have been providing services to individuals, couples, families and groups since 2007. I am a Licensed Psychological Associate in North Carolina, License Number 3453 and work under the supervision of Dr. Josh - Broman- Fulks.
My training is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and this is my primary approach to therapy. I incorporate other approaches as appropriate. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a time-limited, empirically supported treatment for a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, worry, relationship conflicts, eating disorders and substance abuse.
CBT is the only psychotherapy that is scientifically supported by more than thirty years of research demonstrating its effectiveness. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the assumption that beliefs, behaviors, and emotions are interrelated. It is a collaborative, present-focused approach to problematic behaviors, thinking patterns, and emotions. CBT therapists take an active, in-session stance to teach clients skills that can be used to improve current functioning.
Skills learned in session generalize to life outside of therapy, clients receive individualized reading, writing, or behavioral assignments to be completed during the week. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has repeatedly been shown to have a lasting effect in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. Research has demonstrated that CBT is superior to anti-depressant treatment and can be used as an alternative or in combination with pharmacological therapy.
There are many different approaches to therapy and you have to find what works best for you and your personality and sometimes that will involve trial and error with finding a psychologist that you click with who is well-trained enough to be able to give you the tools that you need. I will work with you to find the right approach to assist you in achieving your goals.
I currently accept AmeriHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Healthy Blue, Medcost and WellCare. If you choose to pay for your session, I accept MC, VISA, American Express, Discover and Venmo.
